  • Still have the links to it to do.
  • -- 31st July 2008 --

  • Have been very busy over the last year with matters that have nothing to do with this website or Napoleonic computer games. Now catching back up and while doing so tried a smoke test of "NTEFree" on my VISTA machine. Seems to work although it's a bit like putting lipstick on a pig. Still kudos to Microsoft for backwards compatability. A Windows 3.1 program working on VISTA is pretty good.

Currently in development:

  • "Napoleon at Lutzen" which will cover the battle of Lutzen (Gross-Gorschen in Germany) It took place on May 2nd 1813, roughly 13 miles (20km) south-west of Leipzig, Saxony. Lutzen was Napoleon's first major battle after the disasterous retreat from Moscow.

Currently this title and the follow on "Bautzen" one are on the backburner.

  • Improved UI - with intuitive graphical display of information and orders giving.
  • Front end GUI vs. backend resolution engine.
  • The game engine was originally 16 bit and is now 32 bit - a fair amount of work you can't see.
  • This webpage is the main product currently being worked on. In addition to finishing the reference sections and giving them decent indices, a series of regular essays on various campaigns is planned. The "Hundred Days" to begin. Then the spring of 1813, followed by the fall of 1813.

Already done:

  • A shareware game called "Napoleon the Emperor" which covered the battle of Waterloo. Registered versions added the battles of Ligny and Quartre Bras. This game was first released in 1996. It achieved it's design goals of being able to reproduce the historical battle with just a few hours of play. Unfortunately, the weakness of its User Interface and the AI for subordinate units detracted significantly from its playability.

Rather to my surprise I've found copies of this game are still available on Web-Grognards. Payment and ordering information in these downloads is outdated.

However, if you've played the Waterloo scenario and feel you'd like to have the Ligny and Quartre Bra ones mail me by clicking here. I'll e-mail you a free but generic copy. No warranty and the offer may not last.
